Canterbury golfer Cooper Moore has been recognised as one of world’s top young players with his selection for the international team to play at the Junior Presidents Cup in the United States.
Moore, who is a member of the Clearwater Golf Club in Northwood, will be one of 12 players from around the world to compete against the US team at Medinah, Illinois, from September 20-21.
The 17-year-old secured his place by ranking fifth among international players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
The Junior Presidents Cup is a two-day team match-play competition that takes place before the professional Presidents Cup starts at the same venue.
Twelve of the world's best junior boys (19 and under) from outside Europe will face off against the top 12 young US golfers, mirroring the format of the professional event.
The international squad is drawn from seven nations, including Japan, South Korea, China, Colombia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and New Zealand.
The US has won all four editions held since the event's inception in 2017.
Over the past two years, Moore has won the New Zealand Amateur Championship, Australian Boys Amateur and Asia-Pacific junior boys’ championship. he also claimed his first victory in a professional competition at the Mount Open on the Charles Tour.
The Clearwater golfer has taken part in the last two New Zealand Opens at Millbrook and was runner-up at the New Zealand PGA Championship this year, making him the highest finishing Kiwi in the field.
Moore will be one of the highest-ranked players in the international team and is among the most decorated junior amateurs in the Asia-Pacific region.
