India are coming in what is being billed as one of the biggest tours in a generation.
They will open New Zealand’s international home season with a five-game T20 series followed by five ODIs.
But the highlight for many fans will be the two tests.
The first has been scheduled for the Basin Reserve from November 19-23, and Christchurch has secured the second test, which will be played at Hagley Oval from November 27 to December 1.
Dunedin misses out on hosting the Indians. But they have been awarded a one-dayer against Sri Lanka later in the month, as reported in the Otago Daily Times last week.
That game is on January 22. It is the third, and potentially the decider, in the series.
Sri Lanka arrive in New Zealand in January and will also play three ODIs and two tests.
The White Ferns, who are in England preparing to defend their T20 World Cup title, will host Bangladesh in three T20s and three ODIs in December.
The series will be the White Ferns' only home tour of the summer. Their focus will be on the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka, which has been rescheduled for February.
Their planned tour of Australia in February-March 2027 will be rescheduled.
The Indian tour will mark the return of Sky as the host broadcaster of New Zealand Cricket's internationals.
New Zealand and India have a flourishing rivalry.
The Black Caps knocked a star-studded Indian side out of the 2019 World Cup. They defeated India again in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship in England in 2021. And they swept India 3-0 in an away test series in 2024 — an historic result which was previously unthinkable.
India has had success as well.
They beat the Black Caps in the 2023 World Cup semifinal in Mumbai, the 2024 Champions Trophy final in Dubai and the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad in March.
India arrive in October and get their tour under way with back-to-back T20s at Hagley Oval on October 22 and 24.
Christchurch has also been allocated the second test.
India have not won a test in New Zealand since 2009, when Sachin Tendulkar clubbed 160 to help set up a 10-wicket win.
Tauranga’s Bay Oval has been allocated a heap of games.
The venue has secured two Black Caps ODIs, two White Ferns ODIs and the first test against Sri Lanka, which gets under way on February 4.
