Local art lovers will have the chance to buy art works directly from the artists at the 12th OpenArts Annual Art Fair this weekend.

The popular event will run from tomorrow to Sunday at Macandrew Bay Hall.

Otago Peninsula artists group OpenArts Inc chairman Roger Weston said the art fair was a great way for artists to connect directly with the public in a relaxed space with a friendly atmosphere and live music.

"The artists enjoy it because they get that direct contact with art buyers and can talk about the ideas behind their work," he said.

"Also, we often have artists demonstrating their techniques during the fair, which is great for people to see."

The OpenArts Annual Art Fair will feature work by 18 local artists, and will include paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics, pottery, jewellery, writings, books, posters, dolls, woodwork and crafts.

"We are thrilled with the huge array of different styles of work that will be showcased during the art fair — there really will be something for everyone," Mr Weston said.

Local musicians will also step up to perform during the OpenArts Annual Art Fair, including Paul Wheeler (keyboard) and Fiona Pickering (flute), Tony and Solomon Baldock and singer Chris Abbott.

After a preview tomorrow at 5pm, the art fair will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
