Comfort, connection and cheer will combine as an annual gathering returns to bring the community together over warm dishes and even warmer conversations.

The popular Dunedin Community Christmas Dinner will be held at the Dunedin Town Hall at 11.30am on December 25 and everyone is invited.

Dunedin Christmas Charitable Trust member Rob Riddell Tigeir said preparations for the festive event were well under way.

“We are getting a fantastic response from businesses supporting us.

"Dozens of organisations are helping us make this happen.”

The event has a focus on catering to a wide range of people, ensuring comfort and inclusion for attendees.

“If there are any dietary requirements, just let us know and we will make sure they are dealt with,” Mr Riddell Tigeir said.

Accessibility for all is a priority.

“If people are feeling anxious about coming, then on the day they will be greeted and if they have specific needs, we will make sure they are addressed.”

"So if they need to sit near an exit, or near a toilet, or near a wall, that is fine, we will make sure that happens on the day."

Volunteers have responded strongly. About 150 people have already signed up to help on the day.

Community interest is growing, already more than 300 guests have registered to attend.

Mr Riddell Tigeir encouraged everyone who would like to take part to register in advance to help organisers plan effectively.

The dinner was completely free and everyone was welcome, no-one would be turned away.

"Everybody who comes creates the environment, they create the community, they create the fantastic atmosphere.

"So the more the merrier."

People can book online at www.christmas.org.nz/dinner-invite/booking-form, by phone on (03)471-6150 or in person by visiting the first floor of Dunedin Community House at 43 Princes St.
