A group of well-known Otago business people have invested into tourism company RealNZ.

Yesterday, the company announced that Rod Drury, Jonty Edgar, Martin Dippie, Brendan Lindsay and Milford Asset Management had taken part in its equity raise.

The company described it as ‘‘one of the largest private capital raises for New Zealand tourism’’, but did not disclose any figures.

The company’s majority owners, the Hutchins family, had also invested and would retain a majority shareholding in the business.

RealNZ’s chief executive Stephen England-Hall said the funds raised would be used to ‘‘organically grow’’ RealNZ’s business, invest in technology and possibly add other tourism assets to its portfolio.

‘‘We are on a mission to accelerate the shift to sustainable tourism and this will help us do that.”
