Industry sources claim police drama The Beast - which saw the cancer-stricken Patrick Swayze play a rogue FBI agent in Chicago - will not return for a second season because Swayze is too ill, according to Variety magazine.
The 56-year-old actor was shooting the first 13-episode series of the programme when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year.
He completed filming, despite spending several weeks in hospital fighting pneumonia.
The show did not rate well, but sources expected network A+E to commission a second series.
One of the actors was put on a contract hold last August, while several others were reportedly keeping their schedules open in case the show was renewed.
Now it appears Swayze is too ill to continue acting, and executives cannot find a suitable replacement.
Network officials have refused to confirm a cancellation, insisting they are yet to make a decision about the programme.
