The Great USA Day, which features a street cruise on Friday night, March 6, followed by an all day display and activities on Saturday, March 7, celebrates the many American vehicles that have found their way to New Zealand.

This event was one of the first and largest events of its type in the country.

The Great USA Day is a relaxed and fun show, featuring American vehicles in any condition and of any age — stock standards and restored vehicles, hot rods and street machines, Fords, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Buicks and motorcycles.

The event is organised annually by Stateside Streeters Inc and involves several other Dunedin and out-of-town clubs.

The day is not only for the club members; anyone with an American-origin vehicle is welcome.

Last year, the Stateside Streeters club celebrated its 40th anniversary, and a majority of its original members are still actively involved with the club.

THE FRIDAY NIGHT CRUISE

As in previous years, many of the cars taking part can be seen on Friday night, March 6, as they cruise through the city.

Up to 150 cars are expected to take part in the event.

THE GREAT USA DAY

Vehicle registration will begin at Hancock Park, corner Victoria Rd and John Wilson Drive, from 8am on Saturday, March 7.

Car owners will be able to enter for a range of prizes and trophies, including top 10, people’s choice and longest distance travelled.

American vehicles of any year and description can be displayed — the more the merrier, to make this an event to remember.

If you are wanting to sell your American car, you are welcome to come down and put a ‘‘for sale’’ sign on it.

Alongside the cars there will be plenty of entertainment for the children, including Little Flick rides, lolly scrambles and hot food and drinks.

There will be plenty of trade stalls and ‘‘The Great USA Day’’ t-shirts for sale.
