One of the biggest names in New Zealand fashion will take part in next month's iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

Auckland-based designer Kate Sylvester will feature at the event's premier catwalk shows as the national guest designer.

She will show her autumn-winter collection, called "a Muse'', on Friday, March 18, and Saturday, March 19.

In a statement, Ms Sylvester said her current collection was inspired by Picasso and combined "silhouettes with a cubist eccentricity''.

She will also join the event's iD International Emerging Designer Awards judging panel and she will give a public talk at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery about the impact of art on her own collections over 22 years in fashion.

Ms Sylvester said she was excited to see "the creativity from the Emerging Designer finalists from around the world''.

"iD Fashion Week is a very prestigious and important event for New Zealand fashion.

"I'm looking forward to participating and supporting our incredible South Island customers and retailers,'' Ms Sylvester said.
