Wardrobe confessions: Miranda Spary

Stunned to learn anyone could want to talk to her about fashion, Queenstown Times columnist Miranda Spary reluctantly let Lea Jones loose in her wardrobe.

Describe your style
I checked with my daughter who is 18 and she tells me that I have no style and am, in fact, a perpetrator of some of the most tragic fashion crimes known to man.

Has it evolved?
My style hasn't evolved, it has just gradually worsened with age.

Describe your wardrobe.
My wardrobe consists of numerous identical items.

Currently six pairs of black Lululemon yoga pants, three purple cardigans, three grey T-shirts, three pink cashmere jerseys (all too small ) plus dozens of unworn items bought on various thin days.

Whose style do you like or look up to?
Mostly my husband's, who is something of a fashion tragedy as well.

It is quite strange, as I have so many friends who dress beautifully and take real care with their appearance.

My book club could quite easily be called a fashion club if it weren't for my belonging to it.

Who are your favourite designers?
I wouldn't really like to damage their reputations by saying so, but I did once chase a woman in an Auckland restaurant to ask her where her beautiful red velvet jacket came from.

She showed me the shop two doors down called Zambesi and I went in and bought the exact same one.

It cost a fortune, but I've worn it for years.

I kept going back there but I haven't really seen any other Zambesi things that I would know how to wear.

What was the last fashion item you bought?
The last thing I bought was Jewell Cassell's black pleated jacket at the Gently Used Clothing Sale.

It can squish in a ball, so will be perfect for travelling.

And it was a fabulous bargain at $50.

What is your biggest fashion mistake?Where to start ...

My daughter says it's my filthy habit of wearing sneakers and yoga pants or sneakers and jeans.

Unforgivable, apparently.

A fashion tip?
My best fashion tip is not to buy clothes on a thin day.

If you have lost 1.35 kilos, it doesn't mean you should buy a whole lot of clothes a size smaller than you really are.

A beauty tip?
My best beauty tip is to marry a man quite a lot older with bad eyesight.

Be really nice to him.

My husband adores me and thinks I am really beautiful.

No-one has the heart to tell him the truth, especially not me!
