Our solar system’s giant planet is moving through the constellation of Aries, the ram. Rising just before 11pm, the fifth planet from the sun shines as a bright yellowish "star" in the northern sky an hour before sunrise.
The planet’s four major moons, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, are easy to see using binoculars.
If the night is clear and you have a dark location, you may be able to spot another planet.
Uranus is roughly halfway between Jupiter and Matariki. The seventh planet from the sun can just be spotted with the naked eye. A pair of binoculars will make finding the seventh planet from the sun a breeze; its distinctly green colour is an absolute giveaway.
