Dr Margot Skinner, deputy dean of the University of Otago School of Physiotherapy, has been granted a rare honour by Physiotherapy New Zealand.

At the weekend, Dr Skinner became the first person in the past 10 years to be awarded an honorary fellowship by Physiotherapy New Zealand (PNZ), the national organisation for physiotherapists.

Dr Skinner has been an executive member of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy since 2007 and is already an honorary life member of PNZ and a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Physiotherapy.

PNZ president Gill Stotter said Dr Skinner deserved ''the highest of accolades'' and had made ''outstanding'' contributions in research, advocacy and academic fields, and in advancing both the physiotherapy profession and ''population health internationally''.
