Chase fails after men take car

Two men who drove off in a car they took from St Kilda early yesterday were chased by a resident, without success.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the Honda Civic was taken from a Calder St house early yesterday, she said.

An occupant of the house saw the two men drive off and pursued them on foot for a short distance, she said.

A Suzuki scooter was taken from Middleton Rd between 9pm on Tuesday and 8.45am on Wednesday.

It was later recovered in Surrey St, near Hillside Rd, Snr Sgt Waru said.

A trailer was taken from Hargest Crescent between 9.30pm on Tuesday and 7.30am on Wednesday.

In other offending, a handbag and Pilates bag were stolen from a vehicle in Braid Rd, central Dunedin, between 1pm and 1.30pm on Wednesday.

The handbag contained personal items, including a wallet, driver's licence, bank cards, cash and a cellphone.

A Churchill St, Green Island, home was broken into between 10am and 1.30pm on Wednesday, Snr Sgt Waru said.

The intruders smashed a glass sliding door to gain entry. Medication were taken, she said.
