Maasdam was due to arrive in Port Chalmers this morning.
The vessel, with capacity for 1258 passengers and 580 crew, is expected to berth at Beach St wharf at 9.15am from Fiordland, and to sail for Lyttelton at 6pm.
Maasdam will be the first of an expected 130 vessels this season.
They will carry 252,014 passengers, a 6% increase on last year.
