A woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital for treatment early yesterday, after a dog belonging to an acquaintance attacked her.
Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken, of Dunedin, said three women were walking past a South Rd address in Caversham about 2.30am when they were verbally abused from within the address.
One of the women was then physically assaulted.
A female from the address came out to assist the woman, when a male at the address instructed his pit bull terrier to attack the group.
However, the dog targeted the female from the address and the other women were unharmed.
The female had a sizable gash in her forearm, which required stitches, Snr Sgt Aitken said.
A 21-year-old man will appear in Dunedin District Court today on one count of wounding with intent.
