A fundraising campaign has begun to have a hoist installed in a Moana Pool changing room.
Idea Services outcome facilitator Eleanor Doig said the organisation wanted the $10,000 hoist installed by spring.
The hoist would help lift people with physical disabilities from their wheelchair to a changing bed.
''The hoist will go ahead if we can get enough money,'' Ms Doig said.
Dunedin City Council aquatic services manager Paulien Leijnse said the council supported installing the hoist at the pool and would cover about a third of the cost.
Ms Doig said a meeting had been held recently to discuss ways to raise the shortfall.
A hoist was needed for many people in wheelchairs to swim at Moana Pool, she said.
''It's an equity of access issue - it's not fair for people in wheelchairs not to be able to access a council property.''
