Hansen not part of Chch trust

In Venues Management Ltd chairman Sir John Hansen has clarified he no longer has any connection with the Christchurch Stadium Trust.

He was wrongly identified yesterday - in comments made in reaction to the resignation of DVML chief executive Darren Burden - as the chairman of the trust established in 2011 to construct and operate the temporary AMI stadium in Addington, Christchurch.

When contacted, Sir John confirmed he was appointed chairman of the trust at its establishment. He was also the chairman of DVML at the time. However, by agreement, he had taken on the trust role only for the construction stage of the temporary stadium.

He stood down from the trust after that, and had no involvement with its operation, he said.

The AMI Stadium is owned by the trust and managed by VBase, the company of which Mr Burden is to become chief executive next year.

The comments questioned Sir John's surprise on Monday at Mr Burden's resignation, which Sir John said had come out of the blue.
