On its way

Armouring rocks are delivered this week for reclamation work at the site of the new jetty at Portobello, while the Otago Harbour Board pontoon floats in the background. Project foreman Ron Topping, of Amalgamated Builders, said the pontoon was being used to transport heavy gear and drive the piles.

Steve Clearwater Contracting was doing the reclamation work. The project, which includes a steel-piled wharf with concrete decking and a steel berthing pontoon, is being paid for from fundraising by the Portobello community and Dunedin City Council funding, and is expected to be finished next month. It is hoped the jetty will promote tourism and recreation in Portobello.
