Man arrested after police pursuit

A Dunedin man was to appear in court today following a police pursuit in the city early this morning.

A Holden accelerated away from the intersection of Nairn St and Taieri Rd and crashed into a parked vehicle on Taieri Rd a short time after 1.45am.

The Holden's driver failed to stop for police, and was followed into Dalziel Rd, Townleys Rd and Kaikorai Valley Rd.

The vehicle, which was stolen, came to a halt after hitting a concrete median barrier on the Green Island motorway.

Its driver allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two police officers. He was restrained with the aid of pepper spray and a taser.

A 21-year-old Dunedin man is facing charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawfully interfering with a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop after a non-injury crash.
