Man dressed as woman sought after Dunedin sexual assault

Police are seeking the public's help to identify a man dressed a woman who committed a serious sexual assault in Dunedin early on Sunday.

The attack happened about 5.30am, and the offender is described as being of medium to athletic build with long dark hair. He is believed to be Maori or Polynesian.

He was dressed as a woman, and carried a jacket and handbag,

Both the male victim and the offender walked from the Octagon along George Street to where the attack took place, in the vicinity of the Captain Cook Hotel and the Rob Roy Dairy.

• Police are following positive lines of enquiry into another violent attack in the central city on Sunday morning, and believe an arrest is imminent.
