The Otago Museum Trust Board hopes to be able to appoint a successor to former museum chief executive Shimrath Paul early in February. Board chairman Graham Crombie told the board yesterday that applications had now been closed after the post had been advertised internationally.
About 40 initial applications had already been reduced to a long list of a dozen names.
Further work was being undertaken, including telephone interviews, to reduce the applicants to a short list which would be further considered next month.
He was ''delighted'' with the quality of the applicants and the way the appointment process was proceeding. The appointment is likely to be considered at a special meeting of the museum board late next month.
