OUSA head wants better satellite-campus support

Providing more support for students at the University of Otago's ''satellite'' campuses and improving Dunedin student rental accommodation were two key priorities, student leader Francisco Hernandez said this week.

Mr Hernandez, president of the Otago University Students' Association, outlined his priorities after being invited to introduce himself at this week's University Council meeting, the first for the year.

The association was working with the Dunedin City Council as part of its efforts to improve the quality of student rental accommodation in the city, he told the council.

Mr Hernandez said in an interview that another of his main priorities was to improve support for association members who were studying at the university's ''satellite'' campuses in Invercargill, Christchurch and Wellington.

The association did not receive funding from the university to support students at those other campuses and he was keen to improve support for them.
