Paralympian's mother killed in crash

Gayle Hall, the mother of paralympic gold medallist Adam Hall, has died in a car crash south of Dunedin.

Mrs Hall (48) was driving home when her car left a straight piece of the Otokia Rd West and crashed into a hedge about 8am.

She was the only person in the car and died at the scene.

She had just dropped off her son, who was flying to Wellington for a television appearance.

Police said the road was closed for three hours while serious crash investigators carried out a scene examination. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

Adam Hall (22) won a gold medal in the men's standing slalom at the Winter Paralympics in Whistler on March 16.

The pair received a hero's welcome when they returned home to Dunedin with the medal last week.

Mrs Hall is survived by her husband Lindsay, son Adam and daughter Mikaeyla.
