Police still searching for pursuit car

Dunedin police are continuing their search for a black Honda car which nearly collided with a police car during a five-minute pursuit through South Dunedin early yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said the vehicle was spotted without its lights on about 1am yesterday.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, reaching speeds of more than 100kmh.

While police were searching for the car, it suddenly rounded a corner and almost collided with the police car, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

"It came very close to the police car."

Police lost sight of the vehicle in Bay View Rd and the pursuit was called off.

Snr Sgt Aitken said police were following a line of inquiry as to who may have been driving the vehicle.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Dunedin Central police station.
