A police investigation has been launched after four suspicious fires in Dunedin on Monday.
Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said four small fires were lit in John Wilson Ocean Dr about 6.30pm.
Four young people were seen leaving the area after the fires started on the side of the road closest to Chisholm Links Golf Course.
A police dog and tracker were deployed and tracked for more than 1km across the course, he said.
"Unfortunately the track was lost due to the high volume of foot traffic," Snr Sgt Butterfield said.
A young person seen leaving the scene was described as of European descent, tall and wearing a black and white hoodie with white writing on the chest.
