Southland sisters Kirstin and Caitlin Anderson hope to follow in the footsteps of the Daniels siblings and taste success at the Commonwealth Games.

The pair, who leave for Delhi today after competing at the New Zealand synchronised swimming championships in Dunedin yesterday, admit they have some safety concerns.

But the Invercargill-based sisters are confident their wellbeing is in good hands.

"We have full faith in the team that is looking after us over there," Kirstin said.

Kirstin (21) and Caitlin (17) took up the sport as 11-year-olds and have always looked up to Otago's Lisa and Nina Daniels.

The Daniels won a bronze medal in the duet event at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

They have since retired.

"We used to train with them and they have been really good role models. They've helped us out so much," Kirstin said.

The Andersons had a last chance at the New Zealand championships at Moana Pool to smooth out any wrinkles in their routine, and declared themselves pleased with their form.

While they are optimistic about their prospects of repeating the Daniels' feat, they are also realistic.

The Canadian and English duos are expected to dominate.

The sisters have set their sights on scoring a mark of 75 or higher, but it will need to be the latter if they hope to return with a medal.

"We're aiming for a third ... but it will be really hard to get," Kirsten said.
