The Court of Appeal will today hear the appeal by Clayton Weatherston against his murder conviction.
The former Otago University tutor was sentenced to a minimum 18 years in prison two years ago for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Sophie Elliott - who he stabbed more than 200 times in 2008.
The hearing begins at the Appeal Court in Wellington at 10am. Weatherston is not due to be in court or to watch proceedings by video link from prison.
Weatherston's appeal is expected to focus on how his defence of provocation was undermined during his trial.
