Woman allegedly kicked and hit police

A woman allegedly kicked and struck two police officers after leaving a taxi without paying on Saturday morning.

The 31-year-old caught a taxi to a Bedford St address, where she left without paying about 5.30am, Acting Senior Sergeant Chris McLellan said.

Police were called and found the woman highly intoxicated.

She struck a male police officer and then, while she was being transported back to the police station after being arrested, she kicked a female police officer in the head, Snr Sgt McLellan said.

The woman faced charges of obtaining by deceit and assaulting police and was remanded on bail to appear in the Dunedin District Court on October 15.

The police officers were not injured in the incident.
