Auckland police are investigating the death of 59-year-old man after his body was found by a flatmate in their central city apartment this afternoon.
Detective Inspector Bernie Hollewand of Auckland City crime investigation branch (CIB) said the flatmate discovered the body after several days away.
"It is not yet clear whether or not his death is due to natural causes -- he may have been dead for a day or two," he said.
The man's body was bloodied but there were no signs of a struggle, TV3 News reported.
An autopsy would be conducted early on Monday morning.
Mr Hollewand said police were tracing the man's associates and speaking to residents in the building.
The man's identity would not be released until next-of-kin had been advised, he said.
