A Katikati sharemilker who chased and mowed down a black swan with a jet boat on Tauranga Harbour and caused distress to six others has been sentenced.
Carl Ian Williams, 36, was sentenced to four months' community detention and was ordered to pay a fine of $3500 to the Tauranga SPCA when he appeared in the Tauranga District Court today.
The offences, which occurred on Tauranga Harbour on December 26, 2012, came to light after a video taken by someone on board the jetboat surfaced and came to the attention of Tauranga SPCA.
Williams had already paid more than $6500 in reparation to the Tauranga SPCA and has paid a $500 donation to a local bird sanctuary.
