A judge has told a man who broke into premises damaged in last month's major Canterbury earthquake he will not get any sympathy when he is sentenced next month.
Timothy Brian Hurst, 28, pleaded guilty in Christchurch District Court today to breaking into a dairy in Barbadoes Street and a house in Edgeware Road, on September 5 the day after the quake.
Judge Tony Couch said Hurst, who was caught equipped with tools to commit break-ins, had a history of similar offending.
He remanded him on bail with a curfew to November 16 for sentence.
Two other men who were charged with burglaries after the earthquake were given registrar's remands today and did not appear in court.
Daniel Ezekiel Peneha, 28, had pleaded not guilty to two charges and will reappear on November 3 at a registrar's pre-trial hearing.
Deon Mathew Rich, 17, was charged with the burglary of a Wrights Road business, and was further remanded to October 10 by a registrar.
