Computers analysed in teacher sex abuse case

Police are analysing computers associated with a teacher accused of sexually abusing six students.

The man is facing 13 charges and has been granted name suppression to protect the identity of his former students.

He appeared at the High Court at Auckland today where Crown prosecutor Aaron Perkins said two computers associated with the teacher were being analysed.

Mr Perkins also said the Crown would be asking that the children be allowed to give evidence by CCTV from outside the trial courtroom.

Justice Timothy Brewer said the man's lawyer, Richard Earwaker, was seeking to have some of the charges struck out because they lacked "evidential foundation".

The alleged offending came to light after a complaint from a pupil of the school, which cannot be identified.

The principal and board reported the allegation to the police and Child, Youth and Family.

The teacher is also been investigated by the New Zealand Teachers Council.

The man has been remanded on bail and will stand trial in March next year.
