An elderly man is in a serious condition in hospital after a woman who was a guest at his Napier house allegedly attacked him yesterday.
Police were called to the man's property in Onekawa about 7pm, where the 76-year-old man had been beaten, Detective Sergeant Brian Schaab said.
A 44-year-old local woman was arrested and charged with assault with intent to injure.
She was released on bail in Napier District Court this morning to reappear in a couple of weeks.
Mr Schaab did not know the motive behind the assault.
