A jury in the High Court at Hamilton has retired to deliberate on whether a farmer who shot dead a gang associate did so in self-defence.
David Allen, 45, is accused of murdering 35-year-old Muni Rangi Sam Collier on a remote property, 40km southeast of Opotiki in the eastern Bay of Plenty, in September 2007.
A fight over a disputed debt allegedly preceded the killing.
The trial opened last week before seven men and five women jurors.
Justice Ailsa Duffy gave a two-hour summing up this morning and the jury went out at 11.15am.
