Major raid nets guns, drugs, cash

Police have raided homes and an underground bunker as part of a major cannabis operation that has netted guns, drugs and money.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said the raids on Tuesday were carried out in Woodville, near Palmerston North.

They found more than 12 guns, including pistols, rifles and a shotgun.

He said hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash was also found hidden in the house and buried at the property.

"Several small quantities of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and a small amount of cannabis were recovered along with some drug utensils.''

At another property, police found an underground bunker which was being used to grow cannabis.

Mr Sheridan said police seized 150 plants.

A third raid netted a further 172 plants.

Mr Sheridan said a 35-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man face 14 charges of possessing firearms and appeared at Palmerston North District yesterday.

Further investigations were being carried out before a decision was made regarding other charges, he said.

Another 47 year-old man also appeared in court yesterday, charged with growing cannabis.

"These cases demonstrate that it is irrelevant where in New Zealand you reside, or how much you attempt to hide your criminality. If you choose to involve yourself with drugs, we will find out and we will come for you,'' Mr Sheridan said.
