Man airlifted after house fire

A man has been airlifted to hospital with burns to his face after a house fire in Turangi early this morning.

The 66-year-old was woken by a family member when the house caught alight about 2.30am.

Together they helped a third person out of the house, a spokesman for the Youthtown Rescue Helicopter said.

The man was flown to Waikato Hospital with burns to his face, head, back, arms and hands.

Three fire crews fought to extinguish the blaze and a fire investigator is still at the scene this morning.

Another person was treated for smoke inhalation.
