Murder charge after Remuera stabbing

A 24-year-old woman has now been charged with murder after the stabbing death of another woman in the Auckland suburb of Remuera.

The accused woman was originally charged with common assault but in the Auckland District Court today that charge was withdrawn and replaced by one of murder.

The names of the accused woman and her alleged victim were both suppressed by Judge Edward Paul. The woman was remanded in custody to the Mason Clinic for a mental health assessment and was due to reappear later this month.

A 53-year-old woman who was stabbed at a house in Remuera on March 26.

Ambulance officers and police found the critically hurt woman in the house but efforts to resuscitate her failed and she died there.

The relationship between the two women is also suppressed.
