'NZ's strongest man' jailed for road rage attack

The country's strongest man has been jailed for a year and nine months for an a road rage attack.

Dale Shepherd, 40, who won the title of New Zealand's strongest man last year, was sentenced in Auckland District Court yesterday after being found guilty last month of injuring with intent to injure, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Judge Duncan Harvey told Shepherd the community was sick and tired of the sort of beating he gave a 30-year-old motorist.

Shepherd was involved in a minor incident with a vehicle he was overtaking in the Auckland suburb of Kohimarama.

Shepherd pulled the other driver from his car, flung him over the bonnet of his own vehicle and punched him numerous times before passersby stopped the attack.

After hospital treatment the victim needed two weeks off work to recover.
