Police are investigating after a young man died after a fight at a party in south Auckland late last night.
Ambulance officers initially refused to go into the party because of the danger.
When police arrived they escorted paramedics into the Greenhill Crescent house, where they found the body of a young man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s.
St John Ambulance team leader Glyn Taylor said the staff member who took the emergency call just after 11pm decided it was unsafe for the paramedics to go in and called police.
"We went to a safe point and awaited the police to arrive and make the scene safe which they duly did."
The paramedics then went into the house and found the young man dead.
The St John calltaker assessed the danger from the aggressiveness of the caller to her, Mr Taylor said.
Police confirmed the young man had died after a fight.
The party was closed down and a scene examination would take place this morning, police said.
