Dargaville police say they are still investigating an incident in which a 19-year-old male was accidentally shot in the leg.
The teenager and his 18-year-old friend took a firearm from a family member who was a fully licensed holder and went for a drive, about 11pm on Wednesday.
The gun accidentally went off in the vehicle. The victim underwent surgery in Whangarei Hospital yesterday. His condition was not known.
