The man found stabbed to death in a Wellington suburban house been named as 35-year-old Matthew John Hall.
Mr Hall's body was found in his Johnsonville flat about 6.15pm on Tuesday and a homicide investigation is under way.
After a postmortem was carried out last night, police said the preliminary cause of death was multiple wounds to the body.
"We are now looking for the person or persons responsible for Mr Hall's death and are making steady progress with our inquiries to date, but it is still very early stages in the investigation," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said.
