The opening day of the annual sale, which featured collectables alongside CDs, DVDs and magazines, was a popular stop-off point for hundreds of patrons.
The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Alexandra, has been a holiday fixture for more than 30 years and will be open until the end of the week.
Co-organiser Mike Rooney said there was a wide variety of books on offer but the New Zealand section was a favourite among shoppers.
