An 8m plummet down a cliff face left a Swedish man unconscious after he fell from the popular Wanaka climbing spot Riverside Crags, yesterday afternoon.
Charles Ohman (23) was with two companions when he fell from the top of the grade 16 pitched route.
An Australian doctor, Geoff Bennett, was in a separate climbing party and rushed to immobilise Mr Ohman and check him for injuries while emergency services were notified.
A mountain guide who was with Dr Bennett, but declined to be named, said Mr Ohman was ‘‘unconscious for a couple of minutes''.
Mr Ohman was taken to the Wanaka Medical Centre by ambulance for X-rays and further examination.
Constable Ian Henderson said Mr Ohman has been working at the Wanaka Hotel, since moving to the resort recently.
