Emergency services are responding to a small rubbish fire near Cromwell which is being treated as "suspicious".
Fire and Emergency (Fenz) were notified of the blaze "underneath some pine trees" at 12.47pm this afternoon.
Police were on their way to the scene of the blaze near an accommodation block on Kawarau-Gorge Rd, a Fenz spokesman said.
A Fenz appliance and water tanker initially responded before the tanker was stood down.
The fire had not yet been put out, a Fenz spokesman said.
