Central Otago residents have just a few days left to make submissions on the Central Otago Arts Strategy Working Group's draft arts strategy for the district.

The document is designed to address the needs of Central Otago's arts community through the development of communication mechanisms, databases, centralised co-ordination, support and mentoring for artists, relationships with funders, and research into the district's arts environment.

It includes recommendations to include artists in public infrastructure, involve art within proposed public development, and identify indoor and outdoor spaces suitable for displaying art throughout the district.

Visual and performing artists are included in the strategy, as well as young and old, individuals and groups, and beginners and professionals.

Two submissions have been received on the draft strategy and the working group is calling for further feedback before submissions close on September 9.

Artist Sonia Keogh, of the working group, said the low number of submissions could mean either the community agreed with the draft strategy or people had waited until the last minute to give their feedback.

"Either way, it would be helpful to know what has been suggested is what the community wants," Ms Keogh said.

Copies of the strategy are available from the Central Otago District Council service centres, libraries, and the council's website.

Any major projects proposed within the strategy will go through the CODC's annual plan process.
