The 106-year-old Clyde resident, who describes herself as "just an ordinary old girl", doesn't bother making New Year's resolutions but does have a couple of special celebrations coming up - the weddings of two of her great-granddaughters.
"I've never made New Year's resolutions; I just take day by day - what's the point of making resolutions anyway. You can't always carry them out."
Her great-granddaughters, sisters Laura and Katherine Thompson, are the first of the "greats" to get married and Mrs Wilson is excited about going to the weddings - Laura's is at the end of this month in Cromwell and Katherine's is in Dunedin in April.
"I'm looking forward to the weddings. They'll be lovely, and I think I've been very fortunate to get to this stage," Mrs Wilson said.
Her descendants now number 39 and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, who call her "Nannie", visit her at Clyde when they are passing through.
Her 107th birthday is two months away and although she is unsure what age she is turning - "I don't really want to know" - she knows she was born in 1903.
"I'm such an old fossil then, aren't I? I must almost be the last of the Mohicans."
Mrs Wilson insists she has led an ordinary life.
"I haven't done many good deeds but then, I haven't done any fighting either," she said.
Mrs Wilson lives independently in Clyde and often visits family in Invercargill and Dunedin.
"I enjoy gallivanting around; I never say no to going gallivanting."
Her family treat her well, she says.
"I don't always do what I'm told though . . . . I can be a bit stubborn, but they look after me very nicely."
Although she says she "might be going a bit dotty" in her old age, her family insist she is no such thing.
She keeps track of all the family and doesn't miss a trick.
"I'd say I'm a little less active in the brain power than when I was younger. If you gave me a big list of numbers now to add up, I'd probably struggle with it," Mrs Wilson says.
She and her late husband Bill came to Clyde more than 70 years ago, and intended to stay no longer than three years.
"And here I still am and I enjoy the place. I can't find any faults with it at all."
Mrs Wilson is thankful to be in good health and agrees to a photograph "if you make me look 30 years younger".
"Or make me look beautiful, or like the Queen. She's not beautiful exactly but she does have a lovely face. About 10 years ago, I was asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said I needed a new face.
"If I needed one then, because it was well worn out, imagine how much more I need a new one now!"
