‘‘Wives can now go along on boys' hunting weekends,'' Miss Carroll joked, as she glued several more leaves on to the bodice of her unfinished creation and rearranged its train for The News' photo shoot.
Made from weed matting, former Hallensteins shop display material, leaves, flowers and a carefully selected piece of bark, her creation for the Trashion Show will certainly bring a touch of glam to the hunting ground while still retaining the necessary stealth qualities any good camouflage outfit should possess.
Miss Carroll said she invented her costume after much ribbing by Golden Gate Lodge manager and show organiser Glen Christiansen, who was designing an entry of his own and had been ‘‘going on about it'' for days.
‘‘I thought ‘I'll show you','' Miss Carroll said with a chuckle.
Mr Christiansen would not be drawn on the details of his design this week.
‘‘It's very much under wraps,'' he said.
‘‘Purely for the fact that I think I will be taking the fashion world by storm and I think I'm going to be the next Trelise Cooper. And it won't be for sale, either.''
Entrants in the Trashion Show can compete in three categories - cloaks, evening wear and wearable art, with the winner of each section competing for a supreme award.
Recycling and sustainability would be promoted through the show, Mr Christiansen said.
‘‘It could be anything from making it out of ice block wrappers right through to aluminium cans. There's a lot of material out there that just gets biffed away.
The show was ‘‘something quirky . . . where you can design something at minimal expense''.
Some ‘‘fantastic'' prizes would be up for grabs, including a sketch of the supreme winner's design by local artist Alan Waters.
- Cromwell's first Trashion Show will be held on Saturday week, September 20, at 7.30pm in the Golden Gate Lodge Conference Centre. Entries cost $10 per design and entry forms can be collected from the Golden Gate Lodge, Envisage Changes or Mitre 10, in Cromwell.
