Two Alexandra men will appear in the Queenstown District Court today following a serious assault which left another man in an induced coma.
The 22-year-old men were arrested yesterday and each charged with one count of injuring with intent to injure.
They were taken into custody to await their appearance in court.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie, of Alexandra, said a third person - also from Central Otago - was being sought by police in relation to Sunday's assault.
He said further arrests were likely in the next few days in relation to the incident, in which another man suffered a fractured nose and bruised eyes.
About 1.30am on Sunday police were called to a Short St, Alexandra, property after reports unwelcome people had gatecrashed a private party.
Det Snr Sgt Blackie said the two men arrested were among those unwelcome at the address, while the two assaulted were guests.
An altercation began within the residence, then continued outside on parts of Short, Station, and Brandon Sts.
Both assault victims were from the Alexandra area, and were of the same age group as those arrested, Det Snr Sgt Blackie said.
It was not yet known how many people were at the address, or how many were involved in the altercation.
Twelve police officers from Alexandra, Cromwell, Queenstown, Roxburgh, Ranfurly and Omakau were working on the case.
Det Snr Sgt Blackie urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
About 25 people had been interviewed concerning the assault, and police had executed three search warrants.
Officers would continue to interview people involved, including the victim still in hospital.
The man was initially put into an induced coma in the high dependency unit at Dunedin Hospital, but was transferred to a ward yesterday.
His condition remained serious.
