Woman dragged on road: police

An Alexandra man has been arrested after he allegedly drove away as his former partner was getting out of the vehicle, causing her to be dragged on the road for a short distance, Cromwell police said yesterday.

The 32-year-old man was due to appear in the Alexandra District Court next week charged with dangerous driving causing injury, Sergeant Mike Williams, of Cromwell, said.

The couple were arguing before the man drove off.

The incident happened in Cromwell last week and the woman sustained "slight injuries - bruising and scraping", Sgt Williams said.

• In a separate incident, police were investigating an allegation of assault at a party.

The victim required hospital treatment for his injuries, Sgt Williams said.
