45 South fund woes

The future of Oamaru's television station 45 South is uncertain after an unsuccessful application for funding in the latest New Zealand On Air funding round.

The station's committee was "extremely disappointed" and the matter would be discussed at an urgent committee meeting on Tuesday, acting station manager Tony Reynolds said yesterday.

Significant changes had been made by the Government to the way regional television broadcasters were funded, he said.

The most significant change was the criteria focusing on viewing audience numbers.

"As one of the smallest community television stations in the country, if not the smallest, 45 South is always at the back of the queue," Mr Reynolds said.

45 South Television was officially launched in January 2007.
