"So many" people in the Waitaki district want to support the local business community during lockdown, Cara Tipping Smith says.

To help connect those consumers with businesses operating under Alert Level 3, The Business Hive director has launched a new app called What’s Open Waitaki.

"Businesses can upload their details of how they are operating under Alert Level 3 and everyone who has the app can then see who’s operating, what’s the best way to contact them, whether they offer delivery or what contactless collection they’re using," Ms Tipping Smith said.

It was a central place for businesses to list their information, she said.

So far, the response had been "really positive", but the app would only be as useful as the uptake.

"I want it to be useful. The more business our local guys can get, quickly, the better," she said.

"I’m hearing from so many people that they want to support local. Putting your business on this app makes it easy for them."

The Business Hive would remain closed until at least Level 2, Ms Tipping Smith said.

The What’s Open Waitaki app can be found online at: waitaki.glideapp.io.
